Physical Education and Health Teaching Jobs

You know that students feel better -- mentally, physically, emotionally -- when they are healthy and fit.

You are concerned for the health of today's youth, dismayed by the risks associated with guzzling soda, munching processed snacks, and replacing sports and exercise with video games. If you want to be involved in cultivating the total health — mind, body, and spirit — of today's students, then a career as a physical education or health teacher or school nurse at an independent school might be the right fit for you.

Teaching Physical Education or Health or Nursing at an Independent School

As a physical education teacher at an independent school, you will be doing far more than supervising games of dodgeball and kickball. Independent schools often adopt unique approaches to physical education, variously embracing yoga, Pilates, ropes courses, climbing walls, and wilderness experiences in addition to traditional athletics. The multiple aims are complementary: make physical education positive, accessible, and inclusive; foster an appreciation for fitness and wellness; and cultivate well-rounded individuals who can respond positively to life's challenges.

There has been a growing need for school nurses and Directors of Health among our client schools. In most cases, a school seeks candidates who are registered nurses or nurse practitioners. If you are a nurse hoping to take on more of a leadership role, a Director of Health and Wellness position could be a great fit.

Our client schools welcome dynamic physical education and health teachers who are motivated to introduce new ideas and approaches into their curricula and who are eager to work with students from pre-kindergarten to 12th grade.
