    Thomas Cangiano Head of School, Appointed for 2021

    The American Community School at Beirut is proud to welcome Thomas Cangiano as its next Head of School effective July 2021. Since 2018 Thomas has served as the Head of School for GEMS World Academy in Chicago, IL.  Prior to his headship at GEMS, Thomas served as President of the American College of Sofia in Bulgaria and then President of Shady Side Academy in Pennsylvania. Thomas holds a lifelong passion for history and literature and earned his B.A. in American Literature from Middlebury College, an M.A.T. in English from Tufts University and both an M.A. and M.Phil. in History from Columbia University.

    Mark Sylte Founding Head of School, Appointed for 2023

    BASIS Bilingual School Beijing is pleased to announce Mark Sylte as the Founding Head of School, effective July 2023.  Mark will leave The American School Foundation in Mexico City after five years of serving as their Executive Director. Mark began his career at Lawrenceville School in Princeton, where he served for 11 years as a classroom teacher and department chair before moving to Saint Andrew’s School, an Episcopal school in Boca Raton, where he was Head of Upper School. He and his family next moved overseas to Shanghai in 2010, where he was appointed as Head of School for Yew Chung International School before moving to Vietnam in 2013 as Head of School for Saigon South International School in Ho Chi Minh City. Mark holds a doctorate in History and a master’s degree in Russian History from Cornell University, a bachelor’s degree in History from St. Olaf College, and graduated from Father Ryan High School in Nashville, TN.

    Bermuda High School for Girls is thrilled to announce Carol Swainson as their next Head of School, effective July 2023. Carol will be the first woman of color to hold the Head of School position at BHS. She currently serves as the Head of School for the San Francisco Schoolhouse, where she has been since 2018. Previously, she held leadership roles at several independent schools, including the Bentley School in Oakland, CA, St. James Episcopal School in Los Angeles, CA, the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools in Chicago, IL, and Head-Royce School in Oakland, CA. Carol is a graduate of the University of Virginia with a B.A. in Spanish and French and an M.Ed. in Social Foundations in Education.

    Bermuda High School is an independent school in Pembroke, Bermuda. BHS is an International Baccalaureate and Round Square School with a student body of 576. Ariane has 23 years of experience in schools and her passion for growing schools has led her to Brewster Madrid. Most recently, she served as Enko Waka International School’s Head of School and Country Director (Superintendent).     Colegio Franklin Delano Roosevelt is pleased to announce the appointment of Patricia “Patti” Marshall as their next Superintendent. Patti previously served as the General Director of the American School of Guatemala, and prior to that was at the Ranney School in New Jersey for 18 years.

    Patricia Marshall Superintendent, Appointed for 2023

    Colegio Franklin Delano Roosevelt is excited to announce the appointment of Patricia (Patti) Marshall as their next Superintendent, effective July 2023. She will leave the American School of Guatemala where she has served as General Director/Head of School since 2017. Previously, she served respectively as Lower School Head and Assistant Head of School for Academics at Ranney School in New Jersey (1999-2017). Patti began her career in education at Colegio Panamericano as a History, Civics, and English teacher before transitioning to English Principal and then Interim Head of School (1996 & 1999). Pattie earned a B.A in History and Art History from Ohio University, and an M.A.S in Leadership and Administration from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

Peter has 28 years of experience in education and most recently served as Head of School at the Tilton School in New Hampshire, a position he held since 2012. As Head of School, Peter led the creation of a new educational model, the Mastery Approach, aligning emerging research and best educational practices in the process. Prior to Tilton, Peter served as Upper School Director at Berwick Academy in Maine.  He has also held leadership roles at Sage Hill School (CA), Holderness School (NH), and Western Reserve Academy (OH).  After his own formative boarding school experience, Peter went on to earn his BA in History from Middlebury College then an MA from Dartmouth College.

    Set to open in September 2022, The Egyptian Leadership Academy aspires to develop a coed boarding school for promising students in grades 8-12 from around Egypt. With an academic program that incorporates aspects of U.S. and international curriculum, the school envisions being able to offer a range of subjects and topics preparing students for leading colleges and universities across the world and shaping future generations of Egyptian leaders.     Bryan Bordelon has been selected as Graded’s next High School Principal, beginning July 2022. Since 2016, Bryan has served as Sharpstown International School’s Principal in Houston. Bryan is working towards his Ed.D. in K-12 Leadership from University of Houston (December 2021) and has an MEd in Education Administration and BA in English & Psychology, both awarded from the University of Texas.

Aimmie comes to HKIS from Korea International School, where she was the High School Principal and Student Support Campus Lead. She has also served as the High School Associate Principal and as a Language Arts teacher. Previously, she was a teacher and Department Head within the Halton District School Board, and an English teacher in the Canadian International Matriculation Program at Sunway College. Aimmie holds a B.A. in English and Mathematics as well as a B.Ed in Secondary Education from Queen’s University, and an M.A. in Educational Administration from the University of Toronto.

    Antoine Delaitre Head of School, Appointed for 2024

    The International School of Paris is thrilled to announce that Antoine Delaitre has been appointed as their next Head of School. Antoine currently works at the United Nations International School in New York, where he has served as High School Principal since 2015. He previously served in various roles at San Francisco's French American International School and International High School.

    Emily McCarren Head of School, Appointed for 2022

    Keystone Academy of Beijing is excited to announce Emily McCarren as their next Head of School, starting July 2022. Emily will be leaving her current position as Academy Principal (grades 9-12) at the Punahou School in Honolulu, HI. She started at Punahou in 2006 as a Spanish Teacher and later served as their Director of the Wo International Center from 2012 to 2015. She has also held teaching positions at Thacher School in Ojai, CA, and at Swiss Semester in Zermatt, Switzerland. Emily serves on the boards of the Global Online Academy and the Mastery Transcript Consortium. She earned her BA in Spanish from Colby College and holds master’s degrees in Spanish Literature and Educational Leadership from St. Louis University and Columbia University Emily also earned a PhD in Learning Design and Technology from the University of Hawai’i.

    Bengt Rosberg will be Oberoi's new Deputy Head of School, effective this July. Bengt comes to Oberoi from International School of Kazan where he has served as Secondary School Principal since 2018. Previously he served as Director at EtonHouse Malaysia International School from 2015-2018. Bengt also has experience serving as Curriculum Coordinator as well as Academic Affairs Coordinator for Quatar Academy Sidra.
