Gary Dicovitsky Senior Consultant, Higher Education Advancement & Development

Gary is a senior consultant in Carney, Sandoe & Associates’s Development and Finance Practice Group. After 30+ years working and managing a number of the leading development and alumni relations programs in the country, Gary uses his expansive inside-out knowledge of campaign and programmatic fundraising for consulting with CS&A clients and to probe and provide insights with candidates. Gary’s clients primarily are focussed on advancement searches.

Gary’s services cross the boundaries of preK-8 and K-12; boarding and day schools; universities; Catholic, Jewish, and other denominational schools; single gender traditions and international institutions. His most recent searches range among La Scuola International School (CA), Ursuline Academy (DE), Crossroads School (CA), and Seoul Foreign School (South Korea). Other successful recent searches include The Webb Schools (CA), Harker School (CA), Viewpoint School (CA), and Salisbury Academy (CT).

Previous Experience

Gary’s school and charity background includes in-depth planned giving management at Dartmouth College, the University of Virginia, and Princeton University, also serving on national and regional committees. He oversaw comprehensive development and alumni relations programs, as well as record-breaking campaigns at Pomona College, Caltech, and the esteemed Prostate Cancer Foundation.

Prior to his Development career, Gary was trained as a retail broker at Alex Brown & Sons in Baltimore, was a head basketball coach and assistant athletic director at now Loyola University of Maryland, and assistant basketball coach after serving as an admission officer at Dartmouth College. Gary also was a Certified Financial Planner (CFP).

Education & Interests

Gary graduated from St. Patrick High School before attending and graduating from Dartmouth College and later earning a M.Ed. in management and supervision from Loyola College in Baltimore.

His Dartmouth volunteer work has continued for more than 40 years, formerly as president of the Dartmouth Alumni Council, also of his class and currently as his class gift planning chair and assisting within the Friends of Dartmouth Basketball. Gary served as a trustee at The Webb Schools, and was an active member of the CANARAS Planned Giving Council, as well as on boards as varied as the Coalition to Cure Prostate Cancer in Canada, Tina C. Foundation (Lupus), and the Charlottesville Chapter of the Red Cross.

Gary’s wife is the Director of Philanthropy and Alumni Relations at Pacific Ridge School in Carlsbad. They are proud parents of daughters who attended Foothill Country Day School and Pasadena Polytechnic before attending Princeton University and Dartmouth College, respectively.
