Mike is a senior consultant with the Search and Consulting Group.
Before joining Carney Sandoe, Mike served as Head of School for 11 years at Saint Edward’s School in Vero Beach, Florida. During his time at Saint Edward’s, Mike helped relieve the School of considerable debt and increase the School’s endowment seven-fold. He also increased the quality and diversity of the faculty, administration, and programs, while enhancing the professional life of the educators and expanding the enrollment.
Mike began his career in independent schools at Friends’ Central School (PA), his alma mater, where he served in a variety of roles including teacher, coach, Director of Athletics, Assistant Head of Upper School, Assistant Director of Admissions, Head of Summer Programs, and Head of Middle School. From there Mike moved onto The Haverford School (PA) where he was a coach, dean, and Director of Admissions and Financial Aid, and to Sewickley Academy (PA) working as a coach, teacher, Head of Summer Programs, and Head of Middle School. Mike then joined McDonogh School (MD) as Head of Middle School, also serving on a number of board and campaign committees. His first headship followed at Lancaster Country Day School (PA) where he served as head from 1999-2007. Mike was also the Chief of Staff at ESF Camps, Inc. for two years before his second headship at Saint Edward’s.
Education & Interests
Throughout his career, Mike has been a member of many boards and organizations, including the PAPAS Board in Pennsylvania, Big Brothers/Big Sisters (Lancaster, PA), the National Middle School Association, The Head Mistresses Association of the East, the National Association of Principals of Schools for Girls, Scholarship Foundation of Indian River County, and since 2004 has been an active member of the Country Day School Headmaster’s Association of the United States. He has presented at CASE-NAIS, the NAIS Annual Conference, FCIS Leadership Conference, and for years as a Head of Middle School co-facilitated leadership training summer sessions for middle school heads from around the country with Harry Finks.
Mike received his bachelor's degree from Lock Haven University, his master's degree from St. Joseph’s University, and was a Visiting Fellow at Columbia University’s Teachers College in the Klingenstein’s Head of School Program.
