Devereaux McClatchey serves as the strategic leader and driving force behind Carney, Sandoe & Associates, where he has served as President for over two decades. In this role, he has not only led the firm’s national expansion and growth, but also maintained his deep involvement in executive leadership search and consulting for schools all over the world. Across the country, Devereaux has partnered with boards of trustees to recruit transformational leaders and to navigate critical moments in their institutional journeys—whether it’s succession planning, governance design, or long-range strategic planning. His leadership is grounded in trust, discernment, and a sincere belief in the power of mission-driven education to improve the lives of students around the world.

Devereaux’s approach to leadership is both visionary and pragmatic. He believes that the best work happens when teams are united by shared purpose, mutual respect, and a bias toward action. As President, he has cultivated a strong culture of collegiality and teamwork at Carney, Sandoe—building a firm that is respected not just for its expertise, but for its integrity and humanity.

Prior to his presidency, Devereaux served as Vice President and COO of the firm. Earlier in his career, he taught at Boston Latin School, Phillips Academy (MA), and Harvard Graduate School of Education, practiced law as an attorney with the firm Womble Carlyle (GA), and held various roles at the intersection of education, law, and leadership. His broad professional background in both business and education positions him to offer a well-rounded and expert perspective in consulting for K-12 and university-level institutions.

A native of Atlanta, Devereaux is a graduate of The Westminster Schools (GA) and earned a B.A. in history from Duke University. He later received his J.D. from the University of Georgia School of Law, and a master’s in Theological Studies from Harvard Divinity School. He also pursued additional academic work at the Bread Loaf School of English at Middlebury and the Universidad de la Empresa in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Devereaux is an active member of the Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO) and serves on several nonprofit boards devoted to educational leadership and ethical development. His past board service includes the Center for Spiritual and Ethical Education and the MATCH Graduate School of Education.

Devereaux enjoys coaching youth sports and spending time with his family.
