Heather Flewelling is a versatile professional and learning community leader with over two decades of experience in independent school administration and college program management. Prior to her 5 years as the Chief Talent Officer and Search Consultant at Carney Sandoe, she served for 15 years as Director of Multiculturalism and Community Development at Milton Academy (MA) and for 8 years as the Senior Assistant Director at Brown University’s Swearer Center for Public Service. She regularly presents at regional and national conferences, has worked with regional independent school associations, and has served on NEASC accreditation teams. Heather draws insights from her deep experience as a senior administrator, educator and trainer, social services professional, program manager, mental health counselor, and advocate, seeing complexity from many perspectives. She has knowledge and expertise in working with schools of many profiles and sizes: e.g., traditional, progressive, learning difference focused, arts focused, and outdoor semester programs. In all her roles, Heather works to build and support equitable, inclusive, diverse, growth-oriented programs, schools, and communities that empower teachers, learners, and organizations. She understands the importance of identifying and supporting skilled leaders who are well-positioned to run schools that best meet the needs of all of its students.

Heather holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Harvard‑Radcliffe Colleges and a Master of Social Welfare from the University of California, Berkeley, with a specialization in strengthening children, youth, and families. She currently lives in Western Massachusetts, where she happily trades city traffic for wooded trails. When she’s not on the road visiting schools, you can find her walking her dogs, cooking for her blended family, or tackling one of the many home‑renovation projects she swears she’ll finish “this weekend.”
