Consultants Host Pre-Con at TABS Conference

At the TABS Annual Conference in Boston in November, Baker Group President Chris Baker, Consultant Sara Shulman, and Senior Consultant Karen Whitaker presented a Pre-Con session titled “Breaking Down Barriers: Expanding Your Expertise for Effective Leadership.”

The session was designed to help attendees understand how to break down the barriers of their roles to gain experience beyond their daily responsibilities – ultimately enhancing their job performance and career trajectory.

The team covered the areas of enrollment management, finance, academic leadership, and advancement to help participants learn how to reach across the aisle, whether they aspire to leadership, wish to support their colleagues in their leadership journeys, or simply recognize the value of understanding even more about the school they serve. The trio explored into entry points and current trends in each of these critical areas.

Senior Consultant and Key Administrator Practice Leader Ben Bolté and Director of External Relations & Strategic Partnerships Jonathan Ball attended the Florida Council of Independent Schools (FCIS) Annual Convention at the start of November in Miami.

From discussing senior administrator and head of school searches to sharing our work in recruiting advancement and development professionals, they enjoyed the networking opportunities and seeing familiar faces.

Bob Vitalo, Vice President, Search & Consulting Services, greeted participants at the Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS) Trustees Day in Columbus in early November.

An extension of the ISACS Annual Conference, Trustee Day was designed for trustees and heads of school looking to leverage their partnership to improve their schools' viability.

Burke Zalosh Attends ESHA Head’s Retreat

Consultant Burke Zalosh attended the Elementary School Heads Association (ESHA) Head's Retreat & 50th Gala in Washington, D.C. in October.

She enjoyed meeting with elementary school heads from across the country. The event included speakers and professional development sessions, plus networking and time to celebrate heads' accomplishments in K-8 education.

CS&A at EARCOS Leadership Conference

Karen Neitzel, Senior Consultant in our International Schools Practice and Coach in our Leadership Coaching Practice, represented CS&A at the 53rd annual East Asia Regional Council of Schools Leadership Conference in Bangkok.

This conference brings together some of the brightest minds and most inspiring leaders from international schools, and Karen enjoyed connecting with many of the schools we've supported in their leadership searches. We were also proud to be a sponsor of the event.

Supporting Administrators of Color with NCAIS

Brandon Jacobs and Heather Flewelling, from our DEIB Consulting Practice, presented a breakout session at the North Carolina Association of Independent Schools (NCAIS) Administrators of Color Conference in mid-October.

Their session, “You Have a Story – Now Tell It,” focused on how BIPOC candidates can show their best selves in their cover letter, resume, interview, and entire leadership search process.

Both Brandon and Heather have collectively led dozens of leadership searches, and were excited to be part of the event to help pave the path to leadership.

Darryl Ford, CS&A's Vice President, Education Leadership Services, was also present.

Consultants Host Webinar for SAIS Trustees Series

In September, Leadership Coaching Practice Leader Ann Teaff and Senior Consultant and Coach Lila Lohr presented a webinar as part of the SAIS 2023-2024 Trustee Education Series.

The Trustee Education Series is designed to foster collaboration and enhance the partnership between trustees and heads of school. Ann and Lila's webinar, “Nurturing Success: The Path to Exceptional Support for your Head of School,” shared how they empower heads of school and boards of trustees to thrive in this pivotal partnership. They dove into the intricate dynamics of trustees and heads, shedding light on the ways in which trustees can best support the head in their leadership and, ultimately, in support what is best for the school.

As members of CS&A's Leadership Coaching Practice, Ann and Lila partner with heads of school and their boards and/or board chairs to help both parties develop effective and highly-functional relationships, helping to facilitate honest and transparent conversations within a culture of collaboration and understanding.
