In Rememberance

Remembering Our Colleague, Susanna Jones

We are deeply saddened to share the news that our friend and colleague, Susanna Jones, died unexpectedly on September 21, 2025.

Susanna served as a Senior Consultant and  the leader of Carney Sandoe’s Executive Coaching Practice.  In addition to coaching school leaders—the work she most treasured—Susanna was deeply involved in leadership search and consulting on behalf of schools and school leaders around the country.

Prior to joining CS&A, Susanna enjoyed a remarkable career in education spanning four decades as a teacher, coach, and inspirational leader.  A champion of girls’ education, Susanna served as Head of School at both Holton-Arms School and The Ethel Walker School.  She also served in various teaching and leadership positions at  St. Hilda’s & St. Hugh’s School, Union Theological Seminary, The Marlborough School and Spence School, and she held the position of Executive Director of the 1911 Group – a group committed to female leadership in education.

Susanna was a graduate of Philips Academy Andover and earned an A.B. in History from Princeton University with Honors. She earned an M.A. and an M. Phil. in History from Columbia University and a Certificate in Coaching from the Columbia University Coaching Certification Program.

We send our deepest condolences to her loving husband, Robert Béguelin, and son, Aaron Béguelin. Susanna’s obituary and information regarding services is available at this link.

As many of her colleagues have noted, there was an ineffable quality to Susanna that brought out the best in people.  She inspired others through her humor, grace, and wisdom. Never one to shy away from a challenge, she made us better through her incisive questions, clear thinking, generous spirit, and can-do spirit.  She was brilliant and self-possessed, but remarkably unpretentious for someone of her stature. Susanna was a shining star for generations of faculty and students and for all of us at Carney Sandoe.  She will be deeply missed.
