As a school Head for 32 years, most recently at Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, Barbara brings a wealth of wisdom and experience to the Search and Consulting Group at Carney, Sandoe & Associates.
In addition to an M.L.A. from Johns Hopkins University, Barbara holds an A.B. in history from Brown University, where she later served on the Corporation as both a Trustee and a Fellow of the University. After graduating from Brown in 1967, she began her career as a third grade teacher at Moses Brown School in Providence. She has held roles as the Director of Admission at the Wheeler School in Providence and the Headmistress of the Bryn Mawr School before her Headship at Phillips Academy.
Barbara has served as a volunteer, trustee, and president of various boards and professional organizations, including Brown University (Trustee and Fellow), Annenberg Institute for School Reform, Boys and Girls Club of Lawrence, MA, NAIS, School Year Abroad (President), Pike School, Tower Hill School, The Association of Independent Maryland Schools (President), and BEST (Baltimore Educational Trust).
