Previous Experience

Michael Robinson is a seasoned leader known for his skills in interim headship and transitional leadership within independent schools. Drawing on 23 years of Head of School experience, Michael adeptly guides institutions through critical transitions, leveraging his deep understanding of educational management, community dynamics, and his extensive professional network. His thoughtful and strategic leadership consistently fosters stability and growth, and prepares each school for a thriving future.

His experience encompasses a diverse spectrum of independent schools across the United States, including New England, the Midwest, the Mid-Atlantic, and the South. He has held Head of School roles in preK-8, K-12, coeducational, day, and boarding school settings, with a particular focus on Episcopal schools.

Most recently, Michael served as Interim Head of School at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Day School (Coconut Grove, FL), St. Luke’s Episcopal School (San Antonio, TX), and St. Martin’s Episcopal School (Atlanta, GA), demonstrating his proficiency in navigating schools through leadership changes. His distinguished career, beginning in 1993, includes leadership positions at NAIS institutions such as The Park School, Lake Forest Country Day School, and St. Nicholas School (where he was Head of School), as well as Trinity-Pawling School and St. Patrick’s Episcopal Day School (where he served as Chaplain and Coach).

Education & Interests

Michael’s educational background includes a Master of Divinity from Virginia Theological Seminary, and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Professionally, he is an ordained Episcopal priest, a certified executive coach through the Center for Executive Coaching, a certified practitioner of both Hogan Assessment and PXT Select Assessments and holds a certification in Transitional Ministry from the Interim Ministry Network. His board experience includes service on the National Association of Episcopal Schools (NAES), the Mid-Atlantic Episcopal Schools Association, the Tennessee Association of Episcopal Schools, and the Dana Hall School in Wellesley, MA. Michael resides in Freeport, Maine, and enjoys hiking, sailing, pickleball, tennis, and golf.
