Independent schools are ramping up their Spanish curricula, and they're interested in finding top-quality Spanish teachers to fill their departments. Some schools actively seek native Spanish speakers, while others actively look for teachers who learned Spanish as a second language. All schools, though, look for fluency in their Spanish teaching candidates, whether innate or learned from a significant amount of time spent living abroad.

Finding Spanish Teaching Jobs Through CS&A

• A master's degree (preferred) or bachelor's degree in Spanish
• A demonstrated fluency in Spanish
• Years spent living abroad in a Spanish-speaking country
• Experience teaching a foreign language in an independent, private, boarding, college preparatory, or like-kind school setting
• Experience using technology to augment Spanish teaching
• A love of children, community, cultures, and languages in general
• Strong references that attest to your teaching abilities, connection with students, and mastery of Spanish
• Knowledge of 21st-century learning principles and techniques
• Excitement about fostering global citizens
• Skills, talents, and flexibility for contributing to the independent school community in additional capacities. For example: coaching sports, advising extracurricular activities, supervising a dorm at a boarding school, etc.
• Additional language-related skills and work experience that can enrich an independent school community. For example: Advising a Spanish club or foreign film club, managing a language lab, or spearheading global education initiatives.

Obtaining such documentation is strictly the responsibility of the candidate and hiring school.
