Dynamic Strategic Services

“Strategic planning” used to be an extremely  process-driven way for schools to get everyone on the same page to get through times of increasingly rapid change. Today, change is no longer something to “get through.”

Change is constant and wise schools realize that strategic thinking should be an ongoing rather than an episodic effort. Process is important, but it, too, must adapt to each school’s needs.

It is, however, still essential that schools look beyond what is in front of them today and set goals and undertake initiatives that guide their work and assure their future sustainability. So, how do you blend the need for longer term goals with the need for your school to be flexible and responsive when change is constant? Indeed, in today’s dynamic environment, the need for an effort that gets everyone on the same page is especially compelling.

Today’s  “strategy making” must be driven by answering the question “What are we going to do?” We must come up with a vision of what we want our school to look like in the future, and a road map of  the key efforts that will get us from here to there. If some of those pathways are more tactical than purely strategic, that’s OK.

The other key to successful plans is to provide a mechanism for tracking progress, assigning accountability, and measuring success. We believe that you need a strategic plan that describes what you aspire to accomplish, and we can assist you in developing an internal implementation plan that is a road map for how you are going to do it.

To assist you, we do a lot of listening to the school community sharing whatever is on their minds about the future of the school. Then we consolidate those ideas into a menu of options and, working with a representative strategic planning committee, facilitate consideration of those options. The result is is a set of  initiatives that are bold and manageable, mission-centric, and articulated in an implementation plan that drives action and facilitates accountability.

We welcome the opportunity to continue the conversation as you consider your own strategy efforts.
