Diversity Forum 2016: Thank You

It is hard to believe that after months of preparation, anticipation, and excitement, our second annual Diversity Forum has come to a close.

The event was everything we had hoped it would be: inclusive, empowering, inspiring, and fruitful.  Thank you to everyone who made the event a success: our own conference team and our amazing keynote speakers, the honorary faculty who led insightful panel discussions and workshops, and the candidates and schools who united in a shared commitment to diversity and inclusion, interviewing one another to improve and diversify independent school faculties nationwide.

Our President, Devereaux McClatchey, kicked off the event with a welcome that set an inclusive tone for the entire conference.  Devereaux exhaustively welcomed every group, every type of individual and reiterated, time and again, how happy we as a company were that they could join us.  The varied perspectives and wide assortment of backgrounds enriched our event, and we were so excited to see everyone who had registered in one room.

Our two keynote speakers, Reveta Bowers of the Center for Early Education and Temba Maqubela of The Groton School, then took the stage.  Both shared personal and insightful remarks about their own journeys to leadership in independent schools and about the work they have done in diversity: the strides they have made in their schools and communities, and the work that still remains.  Both underscored that now is a critical time in our nation to focus unabashedly upon this important work.  Now is the time for events like these and for schools like our clients to press forward with urgency.

Following the keynote addresses, the dual hiring and professional development event began.  Schools and candidates interviewed all day in the interview room, while our lineup of honorary faculty members from schools across the nation facilitated sessions and workshops on issues ranging from pursuing a Headship to achieving authentic multiculturalism in schools to honoring and telling your story.

Throughout the day, we encouraged participants to add to our community art project: a tapestry of words, pictures, and thoughts that came together to create something beautiful.  We asked each person to contribute their individual “piece” to this project, demonstrating how varied pieces of different content and colors could create a true work of art.

This is a special event for us.  Thank you to everyone who joined us.
