Bob joined Carney, Sandoe & Associates to establish the Catholic Schools Practice. Although the firm had been supporting Catholic schools for all of its 40+ year existence, the decision was made to focus extraordinary resources and expertise on the rapidly changing needs of this increasingly important education sector.
Since Bob’s arrival, the firm has emerged as the dominant search firm in the Catholic school space. Bob and his team have conducted more than 100 leadership searches for Catholic schools and arch/dioceses across the country, including high-performing independent schools at the PK-8 and secondary levels. They have also provided critical consulting services to Catholic schools and governing boards in transition, including adoption of new leadership models and effective new leadership profiles, conversion from advisory to fiduciary governance, and strategies for raising the profile and powerful value proposition of their Catholic mission and identity.
Bob has emerged as a major thought leader to Catholic schools across the country and has been a featured speaker at several national conferences. He has also published a highly-regarded and widely-circulated monograph entitled, “Reflections on Catholic School Leadership, Governance, and Strategy.” The monograph is in its second edition and is not only being referenced by governing boards and arch/dioceses during periods of transition but is being taught in the core leadership curricula at a number of Catholic colleges and universities developing future leaders for Catholic schools. As one reviewer recently said of the monograph, “I could not stop reading until I finished – the pieces made me think, reflect, and deliberate on topics of great interest to me. Your thoughts have excited and inspired me.”
He currently serves as a Senior Consultant.
Bob began his career in boarding schools where he taught English, coached several sports, and served as housemaster – first at Trinity-Pawling School (NY) and later at The Lawrenceville School (NJ). A career change brought him to the dynamic world of high technology where he excelled in marketing, sales, and communications, being appointed director of a major global marketing program at Digital Equipment Corporation.
Bob was later recruited to serve as President & CEO of New England College of Finance (NECF), a unique corporate college in the financial services space. Bob led this prominent institution for 21 years, expanding its presence from Boston to New England and eventually across the country and worldwide, establishing online and on-ground programs in Europe, Bermuda, and other parts of the world. For his leadership efforts of the college, Bob received a number of awards including Top-125 Financial Services Executive for Visionary Leadership.
Following his departure from NECF, Bob held a variety of mission-critical positions at Northeastern University, the Boston Public Schools, and as president of J.K.
